Abstract

Field trials for weed control with Liberty in glufosinate-tolerant sugar beet were conducted on 14 field trial sites in Germany. The aim of the trials was to examine the application of the Liberty Link system. Within the scope of trials, various application quantities times of Liberty were tested for efficacy against weeds, tolerance of the sugar beet towards the herbicide and sugar yield in comparison to conventional appli-cation systems. It was shown that the efficacy of Liberty with 2 or 3 applications of max. 6.0 l/ha in total was comparable to conventional weed control systems for total weed infestation and for single weed species. Application of Liberty, particularly in the case of larger sugar beet plants caused temporary leaf damage at some trial sites. However, on average of two years Liberty treatments of 3 x 2.0 l/ha and 2 x 3.0 l/ha respectively obtained the same sugar yield as the conventional systems.
