Herbicide resistent crops will make weed control simpler and provide additional options which fit new concepts of weed control. The possible transfer of resistance genes to weedy relatives, the increased probability of selecting herbicide resistant weeds and the problem of volunteers need to be considered in the management of weeds, especially if such crops gain large acreages and only few compounds are used/available. For these reasons and reasons of environmental contamination with herbicides it is important that the farmer does not depend on an one-herbicide-only-control-strategy.
