Phytopathology

Head: Prof. Dr. Varrelmann

The department Phytopathology develops diagnostic methods and resistence test methods in field and greenhouse for sugar beet pathogen fungi and microorganism. Within the range of research projects, solutions for phytopathological problems in sugar beet are developed by means of basic research. These solutions vary from characterization of pathogen biology, pathogenity factors and their population dynamics to identification and characterization of plant-based resistance factors.

Current research:

  • Aphanomyces cochlioides
  • Storability varieties: infestation with microorganism
  • Rhizoctonia: crop rotation
  • Rizomania
